We love discovering historic images of Chester-le-Street, and in this case we’ve been able to more or less match it up with one of our own photos from last year.
We’re not quite sure when the postcard is from, as there’s no date, but the horse-drawn vehicle and lack of motor traffic makes us think it might be the early 1900s or even a little earlier.
There are many differences, of course – but also plenty of old buildings that remain!
